Abstract:
The Census and Economic Information Center (CEIC) maintains an Open Data site for the distribution of data produced by the U.S. Census Bureau since 1970. The data are in the form of geographic boundary files that contain demographic data from the decennial Census and the American Community Survey.

The CEIC in the Montana Department of Commerce has compiled and published the 2020 Census Redistricting GIS Data for the State of Montana for State, County, Census Tract, Reservation, Place (cities and towns), and State Senate and House Districts. The datasets include a subset of the most common variables from the 2020 Census Redistricting release. https://ceic.mt.gov/Programs/Census-2020/Redistricting

Current and historical Decennial Census boundaries and datasets include the following subjects:
Age cohorts
Population by Race
Household by Type
Housing Occupancy
Housing Tenure
Relationship
Total Population by Race
Total Population by Sex and Age

Decennial Census data is available for all state, reservation, county, place, tract, block numbering area, block group and block boundaries where available. Please note that Census did not produce digital boundaries and data for all boundaries types each Decennial Census.

American Community Survey 5-Year Estimates include the following subjects:
Below Poverty Level
Disability Characteristics
Educational Attainment
Employment Status
Gross Rent
Gross Rent as a Percentage of Household Income (GRAPI)
Health Insurance Coverage
Households by Type
Housing Occupancy
Housing Tenure
Income In The Last 12 Months
Population In Occupied Housing Units
Poverty Status
Race
Selected Monthly Owner Costs (SMOC)
Selected Monthly Owner Costs as a Percentage Of Household Income (SMOCAPI)
Total Population
Veteran Status

ACS data are available for state, reservation, county, place, tract, block group, block, senate district and house district.

Please note that overlapping survey dates are not available.

Sample size and data quality measures (including coverage rates, allocation rates, and response rates) can be found on the American Community Survey website in the Methodology section. Supporting documentation on code lists, subject definitions, data accuracy, and statistical testing can be found on the American Community Survey website in the Data and Documentation section. Data are based on a sample and are subject to sampling variability. The degree of uncertainty for an estimate arising from sampling variability is represented through the use of a margin of error. The value shown here is the 90 percent margin of error. The margin of error can be interpreted roughly as providing a 90 percent probability that the interval defined by the estimate minus the margin of error and the estimate plus the margin of error (the lower and upper confidence bounds) contains the true value. In addition to sampling variability, the ACS estimates are subject to nonsampling error (for a discussion of nonsampling variability, see Accuracy of the Data). The effect of nonsampling error is not represented in these tables.
